Go Powder your Nose

And while you’re at it, take a look around.

Does your powder room look anything like this:

Well mine does and it’s a shame.  Seriously, this really is my own sad powder room.  It could be worse I guess.  But it could also be a whole lot better!

This tiny room in most of our homes sees a lot of action.  And because it is small but frequently visited by our families and our guests it is the PERFECT place to step out of our comfort zones and do something  a little daring and fantastic.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying you should make it totally our of sync with the rest of your house.  I’m just saying this is a great place to take some chances and turn up the volume a little bit.  Small spaces like this are just right for big, bold designs.

Have you loved some of the beautiful wallpapers that are on the market now but haven’t had the nerve to try them?    Your powder room is the best little laboratory for trying something on for size.

A light and lovely geometric print.

A dark and dramatic damask.

Or one wall of something really big and bold.

You could create a gallery with a dark backdrop.

White would work just as well.

Why not a chandelier?

Or an oversized mirror?

Or some tile on the wall.

Sometimes all you need is a clean, white space with a really great mirror.

Or a really great floor.

Or a really great ceiling.

Maybe you’d like something simple and sophisticated.

Or understated and elegant.

Or modern and casual.

Or just downright awesome.

I will admit that some of these powder rooms pretty involved harder to pull off. But some are all about a little paint and one or two great features.  When you think about it, even something that’s harder to pull off in such a tiny space is not that hard, right?

What can you do to make your powder room pack a little more punch?  Come on, be brave.  I promise you won’t be sorry you did.

I’m going to work on mine too…
